The tourism sector in Mombasa has received a major boost following the arrival of a cruise ship at the Port of Mombasa. The MS Silver Spirit ship which had 837 passengers on board docked at the port today (Thursday, December 22, 2017) at around 8 am in the morning. The ship is en route to South Africa from Seychelles. The cruise ship is however expected to leave for the Comoros Islands at 10pm.The tourists who were onboard the ship hail from the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands among other nations. They are expected to tour different historical sites in the Coastal city including Fort Jesus, Mombasa’s Old Town area and the Mombasa Marine National Park and Reserve among others, Citizen Digital reports. The docking of the ship is expected to boost the number of foreign tourists visiting the region during this festive season, which is considered a high season in Kenya's tourism sector. This comes amid a surge in domestic tourists at the Coast, a move that has been attributed to the cheap transport and faster speeds offered by the Madaraka Express train.Majority of the holidaymakers who have traveled to the Coast are said to have come from Nairobi.
