Governor Jack Ranguma on Tuesday gave out Sh5.5 million to small scale traders in Kisumu city to boost their businesses.
Speaking at the ceremony held at the county headquarters, the governor reiterated his government’s commitment to boosting the kitty given out as loans to the traders as a means of creating jobs as well as reducing poverty.
Over 48 small scale traders drawn from various wards across the city who qualified for the loans benefited after successful vetting process carried out by the department of trade.
This was the second time the governor gave out the funds to traders from the county.
In the first round which took place in May 2016, Ranguma gave out a total of Sh4.5 million to the traders to promote their businesses and increase their credit worthiness.
Most of the traders expressed their joy, saying the initiative will uplift their businesses and improve their condition of living.
Mary Auma Ochieng said her business has expanded thanks to the loan she obtained in the first round.
“I am happy to receive assistance from my county government, this will help me to expand my business,” she said.
Another small scale trader Wycklife Ochieng Ajwang expressed his appreciation for the gesture from Governor Ranguma.
The county government will from this Thursday hold entrepreneurship training for the beneficiaries on the use of the trade funds.
