Kirinyaga gubernatorial hopeful Anne Waiguru's bid has been handed a major boost, following the endorsement of her candidature by former governor Joseph Ndathi's running mate Reuben Ndegwa.

Ndegwa's endorsement for Waiguru precedes that of former Gichugu MP Benard Gathanga, who resolved to throw his weight behind the former Devolution Cabinet Secretary.

The two exuded confidence that Waiguru would win the county's top seat, despite facing stiff competition from former presidential candidate and Cabinet Minister Martha Karua.

They made the announcement on Monday.

Karua is gunning for the governorship seat on her Narc Kenya party ticket, whereas Waiguru will be hoping to unseat Ndathi on a Jubilee Party ticket.

She beat four others who had lined up for the Jubilee ticket during the primaries, including the incumbent county chief.
