President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to launch construction of the second phase of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), a move that has warmed up the hearts of tourism industry stakeholders.
The second phase dabbed 2A line is an extension of SGR line from Nairobi to Naivasha.
Kenya Association of Hotel Keepers and Caterers official, Sam Ikwaye, said the extension of the SGR line to the Naivasha will be a big boost to the industry considering the lower cost of travel and easy connectivity.
“The SGR will seamlessly link beach and safari tourism in the country and make the products exciting for local and international tourists. This will complete the holiday cycle since they will have the chance to enjoy beach and wildlife products,” Ikwaye said.
The government approved the designs for the Nairobi-Naivasha SGR in March and later signed commercial contracts with China Communications Construction Company.
