Eldoret East Knut Executive Secretary General Sammy Bor has urged the Uasin Gishu County government to employ more ECDE teachers to cater for increasing number of pupils.
He said currently the ratio of teacher to pupil is 1:60.
"In the whole county we have 1,000 teachers, meaning that each school has only 2 ECDE teachers," he said.
Speaking in his office on Tuesday, Bor said they should also improve the remuneration of ECDE teachers since most of them are languishing in poverty due to little pay.
"It's sad that ECDE teachers are only paid Sh10,000 despite the tough economic times, they should give them better pay for them to live a comfortable life like other teachers," he said.
He however criticised the Ministry of Education and Teachers Service Commission for sending home three principals whose schools were torched.
"The move is uncalled for and victimisation of the highest order. That's not the solution to the torching menace. It has instead painted people badly in the sight of students," he said.
The principals were from Tengecha Boys High school, Itiero Boys and and Nyamache Boys High School.
