A farmer Nyamira's Borabu area is counting loses after losing five dairy cattle in a suspected cattle rustling on Monday night.
Speaking at his home on Tuesday, Victor Omandi said the incident took place after he had done his routine check at around 1am that night.
“I carried out my routine check at around 1am and all was well. My wife went out to do milking at 6am only to find no cow at the holding shade. It is a massive loss for me and I really don’t know what to actually do,” he said.
“This is the first time the incident is taking place in my home but I am optimistic that those responsible will be apprehended and be charged in court,” he added.
Area chief John Abaya vindicated the neighbouring Kipsigis community and accused local networks within the Abagusii community of coordinating the theft.
“This is not from our neighbours. We are all aware that some of us have taken the advantage and are stealing our cattle and blaming our neighbours in return. We will pursue them and that is why I am asking all of us to provide information that can lead to arrest of those responsible,” he said.
The village is about 6 kilometres from the troubled border of Borabu-Sotik.
