This comes few days after the Pyrethrum Board of Kenya representatives urged Nyamira farmers to revive pyrethrum farming that collapsed several years ago.

According to them, the 2.4-hactare piece of land has been fenced by an unknown individual without the consent of the shares owners.

“This land belongs to farmers and not even the government," said John Omari, a farmer.

"We contributed in 1970 as a group of farmers and bought it. We are, therefore, perturbed to see this fence.”

They asked the alleged grabber to bring down the fence before they do it themselves and subsequently take a legal action against him or her.

“We have authentic documents showing this land belongs to us. Whoever is fencing should bring this down before we take him or her to court,” he said.

They urged the government to step in and help them repossess the land, besides renovating some of the buildings within so that they can revive the pyrethrum sector.

“Because it is the mandate of the government to protect us from merchants of impunity, we urge them to help us identify this monster. We also request them to help us refurbish some offices that are in a bad state since we want to start pyrethrum farming,” he said.
