A group of parents from Borabu constituency have called upon the managements of schools from the region to abolish early morning learning due to insecurity poised on students.

Speaking in Nyansiongo township during a meeting with education stakeholders, area parents raised concerns following alleged attacks on the students in the region by anonymous people besides information that witches were using the opportunity to antagonise innocent children.

They urged school administrations to reverse the preps decision that had been opposed earlier by the Ministry of Education and reschedule it to evening hours.

“As parents, we are very concerned with the way our pupils are being exposed to insecurity. A number of them have raised concerns about being attacked by anonymous people early in the morning with some accusing witches of scaring them in the morning. This is a matter of concern and they should shift the prep from morning hours to evening,” said Mrs Peninah Temu.

Mwongori chief David Ogega supported the parents and asked teachers to respect the security of children as prescribed in the law.

“I concur with parents on this matter. security of our children is very fundamental and it must be respected. I urge teachers to consider these genuine demands,” he said.

Mr Pius Mong’are of Mogusii primary school urged parents to give them time to review the request and give a detailed answer when schools reopen in September.

“This is a critical matter and I think we should be given time to review it. Hopefully, we will give parents a clear answer on September because we will assess impact on education as well,” he said.
