Residents of Nyandoche Ibere in Borabu will no longer have difficulties using a local footbridge that has for months reportedly injured scores of them.
On Sunday, Nyandoro Kambi a politician in Borabu Constituency visited the area with a team and initiated the repair of the footbridge which residents have been avoiding.
Area chief, Barnabas Ombori had recently advised residents against using the bridge saying that care needed be taken due to its poor condition.
Speaking during the event, Kambi blamed the county leadership for failing to set aside funds to avert such incidents which he termed as "disaster" under the ministry of water and irrigation.
“The county leadership must realise that time has come to set aside funds for disaster management. They are not proactive and this makes it impossible to combat disasters such as this one. It is important that the ministry of water takes care of these environmental disasters,” he said.
Kambi urged residents to alert leaders whenever such situations arise for prompt action to be taken saying it was the responsibility of existing elected leaders.
“It is awkward that you keep quiet watching people get injured or children drowning in rivers even if the county is not doing enough,” he said.
Recently, two men who were allegedly drunk almost lost their lives when they attempted to cross the wooden footbridge but were rescued by locals.
