Speaking on Tuesday at Nyansiongo township, CDF chairman Wellington Mokaya said they used Sh500,000 from the kitty following a public outcry.

Mokaya said the same project will be extended to rural roads to serve a similar purpose, especially due to the ongoing heavy rains that have paralysed normal operations in the area.

“I am here to present to you these waiting bays for the obvious reasons. The ongoing rains and sunny seasons that normally proceed this season are the major reasons why we decided to spend that amount,” he said.

“We have spoken to the contractors and agreed that the project will be extended to rural areas across this constituency. This will make it easier for people to move freely without fear of rains or sunshine,” Mokaya added.

The move was received well by many residents, especially those living near major roads, saying the project was long overdue but lauded the CDF committee for taking up the project and making it a reality.

“As a person, I am very excited with what the CDF committee has done. Some people may dismiss it as a petty project but I want to assure you that many of them will benefit from it. Waiting for PSV vehicles sometimes becomes tiresome and one may even collapse,” said Mary Mouko.
