Residents of Borabu at the border of Nyamira and Bomet counties are calling for a permanent General Service Unit camp to stem cattle rustling that has plagued the region for decades.

According to Vane Makori, a resident, over the years cattle rustling in the area has evolved becoming more sophisticated and efficient.

"Cattle rustling has been on the rise in the two bordering counties.  We call on the GSU officers to permanently camp in the area to wipe out cattle rustlers", she said.

Another resident Boniface Nyachuba noted that locals don't sleep especially now that it is long December holidays when cattle rustlers attack and steal livestock.

"Most families especially during December holiday don't sleep because rustlers attack villages and drive way the animals at night", said Nyachuba.

He added that raiders have guns and an average of 60 to 80 heads of cattle in a year are driven into forests deep in Chepalungu.
