Five officials of a tea group from Borabu constituency are on the run after allegedly defrauding farmers millions of shillings for the months of May and June.

Speaking to HiviSasa.com on Sunday during a grand meeting, farmers criticised the five officials and asked the government or the Kipkebe Tea Company to freeze their accounts till the issue is amicably solved.

According to them, the officials have been playing mind games about the payments of Sh2 million, alleging that the company was in a financial crisis hence unable to pay them.

“We are really disgusted with the officials of Kerumbe tea group," said Mr Abel Mosioma.

"They are on the run after failing to pay our May and June dues. They have been deceiving that our client, Kipkebe tea company, was in a financial crisis and that is not the case after in-depth investigations.”

They accused the officials of being insincere and asked the government to take stern actions against them in a bid to avert such incidents against small-scale farmers.

“We are very poor and depend on the money to educate our children. We urge the government to impose sanctions and if possible freeze the accounts of the officials,” added Mrs Judith Maiko.

The officials include Peter Ogega (chairman), Alex Mogaito (secretary), Felix Onyando (treasurer) and two other members.

Efforts to reach chairman Ogega were futile since he could neither pick calls nor reply to text messages in regard to accusations.
