This comes a few months after a similar incident took place with the police failing to make any apprehensions despite Nyaronge residents identifying suspects.

But on Monday, Matutu police officers led by Sergeant Stephen Mulei descended on a suspected house before recovering the stolen generator and other items suspected to have been stolen from elsewhere.

According to the police, the two who have also been arrested and charged with theft in separate incidents are said to have been released from Kisii Prison in anonymous circumstances.

“We acted swiftly following report from Nyaronge residents. They suspected Mr. Zachary Maroria and Alex Moindi since they had been seen making suspicious movements around the borehole,” Mr. Mulei said.

“these are convicts and I wonder how they managed to get out of prison because I remember prosecuting their  theft case at Kisii Law courts last year and were subsequently given a three years imprisonment,” Mr. Mulei added.

He urged locals to be vigilant and report such incidents in bid to avert rising incidents of theft in the region targeting innocent residents.

“I think this is a very good step towards fighting crimes in the region. We must remain vigilant and deal squarely with these people,” he said.

They will be arraigned in Kisii Law courts on Tuesday and face charges on robbery of public property.

End.
