Dadaab MP has urged the national government to borrow a leaf from the Al-Shabaab and equip the state security agencies manning border counties with modern weapons.
The legislator also wants the number of police officers in camps be increased.
According to Mohamed Dahiye, police officers should match the All Shabaab’s firepower if the region is to be fully secure.
Speaking in Garissa town on Thursday after visiting Hamey police camp, where three officers were brutally killed and one kidnapped during an early morning raid by al Shabaab last week, Dahiye said that it has emerged that Al Shabaab assailants are targeting border posts due to their vulnerability and poor equipment.
Shukran Gure, who accompanied the MP, said the officers in the region work under very deplorable conditions and are less-equipped to deal with possible terrorist attacks.
Several officers who spoke to on condition of anonymity said communication is the biggest problem in safeguarding the area.
