Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire has thrown a jibe at the Jubilee administration accusing it of fearing the opposition’s influence on the 2017 polls.
In his weekly column in The Standard Newspaper on Thursday, Bosire related the slow process of the IEBC officials’ exit from office as a strategy to derail the 2017 elections by delaying the appointment of new commissioners.
“They are dragging the process of sending the officials home so that the timeline of hiring new officials is limited. This means that the current officials will be in charge of the polls contrary to our agreement,” he said.
Bosire added; “they want to bring the confusion again like what we experienced in 2007 when Mwai Kibaki delayed the appointment and subsequent looked for people who could effectively rig on his behalf.”
The ODM national Treasurer alleged that the plan could plunge the country into chaos and allow the Jubilee regime extend its time in office indefinitely.
“Thirdly, I think this is a scheme to deliberately ignite chaos and subsequently extend their term in office. We cannot allow them to cling to power,” he said.
On Thursday, the embattled IEBC commissioners notified President Uhuru of their intent to leave office.
Uhuru has since declared vacant the posts of the chairperson and the eight commissioners after receiving resignation notices.
