If approved by the national Parliament and appointed by the President, Maraga who hails from Bonyamatuta ward in Nyamira County will become the first ever Kisii to serve as Chief Justice of the independent Kenya.

In a text message to this reporter on Thursday moments after the announcement by the Judicial Service Commission, Bosire lauded Justice Maraga's immense experience and expressed his optimism that he will be appointed to replace Willy Mutunga who opted for early retire in June.

“First, it’s good to know that it’s just a nomination which is the first step towards being the Chief Justice. He has made a milestone even before he is appointed and that is commendable. He is experienced in judicial matters,” he said.

“I wish him all the best as he edges closer to being the President of Supreme Court and chairman of the JSC. All I need him to do is serving Kenyans fairly, justly and transparently because that is what our people are yearning for,” he added.

Other leaders who joined in congratulating the judge include Nyamira woman representative Alice Chae and Governor John Nyagarama.
