Police in Baringo are holding a 16-year-old boy for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl at Ng'aratuko in Baringo North sub-county on Sunday.
Reports show that the girl had gone with a friend to fetch firewood at a nearby bush when two boys attacked.
The victim was given first aid at Marigat sub-county hospital where she was rushed by her mother.
She was later taken to the Baringo county referral hospital in Kabarnet for further treatment.
Confirming the incident, area assistant chief Samuel Kamuren said that Kenya Police Reservists helped in arresting the suspect and added that his accomplice was however still at large.
"We hurriedly went to the boy's home to arrest him and took him to Loruk station awaiting police investigation," the chief said.
"The seven-year-old girl was bleeding and had bruises on her legs and other parts of her body. This means there was some sort of struggle before the boy committed the heinous act."
The mother to the girl said her daughter at first declined to tell her the truth about blood seen on her clothes.
"When I interrogated her, she talked about her clothes being stained after eating cactus fruits…I found out she had bled a lot after I decided to strip her."
She recorded a statement at Marigat police station.
