Nominated MCA Esther Njeri Mengere, who is also a social worker, cites that the boy child has been neglected and many of them end up stressed.

Speaking to the press in Naivasha, Magere said that there has been an upsurge in the cases of young boys attempting suicide.

“Majority of the young boys, especially pre-teens are slowly sinking to depression. They need to be accepted in the society. Many feel unloved and unwanted. Unfortunately they have not been given as much attention as the girl child,” she cited.

Mengere added that the children from both sexes needed attention.

“I have seen young boys in their pre-teen attempt suicide especially during the holidays. Their need for acceptance is slowly becoming worrying,” she added.

Lakeview MCA Simon Wanango said that boys were often forced to put a mask of bravery and hide their true feeling.

“Many are forced to shelve their emotions yet deep down they are suffering. I would urge parents to save enough time and to talk to the boys. They need to give them a listening ear too,” he added.
