A class 3 boy at Riabamanyi SDA Primary school in Nyaribari Chache constituency committed suicide on Sunday evening in Nyanko village, Kisii county after his mother asked him to shelter goats from the heavy rains.

The boy's father Paul Makori said the family was shocked that his son hanged himself.

"I leave everything to God since I don't know what happened to my son to take his own son,'' said Makori.

Charles Mokaya, the head teacher at a school where the deceased was studying said the boy was a bright pupil.

"The boy has been performing so well in class and scored over 400 marks in exams,'' he said.

Charles Obonyo, Nyanko location chief said he was informed about the incident by villagers.

"The boy's parents said the boy appeared stable and had no signs of being disturbed", said Obonyo.

Obonyo urged parents in the area to counsel their children and solve their problems.

The administrator said police officers have launched investigations into the matter.

The boy's body was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
