It was all jubilation on Monday for one Godfrey Ngige from Gitaru, Kikuyu after his dream of joining Nyeri High School came true.
The 14-year-old Ngigi, an orphan, was admitted to the school but it was hard to raise the funds required for his admission since his aunt who raised him has no means to pay for his schooling.
But, his quest for education was revived by a group of college students, through the Friends of The Child Kenya (FOCK) that networks through Facebook for worthy causes.
"I had been given up to Wednesday this week to report to the school failure to which my position would be given to another student. I had 395 marks," said a delighted Ngigi.
His school fees for four years was cleared and had even shopping done for him.
"We had 48 applications countrywide but we had to settle for one depending on our ability. We really had a hard time choosing who to sponsor but we are happy we settled on Ngige because he is very bright," said the group leader Robert Githiri.
Githiri expressed his gratitude to the youths behind the initiative.
"I thank all the youths who contribute the Sh 100 we give every month. We are 100 youths, so per month we collect Sh 10,000. We are a group of students from various colleges," said Githiri when they delivered the cheque to the boy's home in Gitaru.
