The Kenya meteorological department has warned that North Eastern region is set to receive heavy rains in the coming weeks.
Through its Deputy Director, Samuel Mwangi, the department says that despite the rains being unevenly distributed in terms of amount, time and space, most places across the country would continue to record heavy downpours for the better part of April and early May.“Most parts across the country will continue to witness more intense rains for the coming weeks then this will then reduce later in May,” said Mwangi. The department's report showed that parts of Lake Victoria Basin, the highlands west of Rift Valley and Tana delta will have heavy rains in the next four to five days. The weather man further added that it is a normal occurrence during a rainy season that does not do well to have incidences of heavy rains punctuated by dry spells and he is urging crop farmers to conserve soil moistures on their farms and carry umbrellas wherever they go during the day.
