The house of a Brazilian national caught fire on Wednesday in Likoni, Mombasa County under mysterious circumstances.
Likoni police boss Benjamin Rotich who confirmed the incident said the house belonging to Ms Marris Ann Paul caught fire at around 10 am Wednesday.
Mr Rotich said the cause of the fire has not yet been established but investigations into the incident have been launched.
No injuries were reported but household items worth millions was destroyed in the fire.
Mr Rotich said the county government and fire department responded on time to put off the fire but they didn’t manage to salvage anything.
“We have started investigations about the incident, we can’t rule out if it was caused by an electric fault,” said police boss as quoted by Baraka FM.
According to Ms Ann, the owner of the house, she lost household goods worth Sh1 million and Sh50,000 in cash in the fire incident.
Speaking to journalists, Ms Ann said she runs the garden of hope orphanage and has been living in the area for the past two years.
“I had left the house early morning and went to town only to be alerted by my caretaker that the house was on fire. The fire burnt my household goods worth Sh1 million and I had also Sh50,000 cash in the house,” said Ms Ann.
