For many Kenyans, bread is a big part of their breakfast.
We consume bread every morning to get the energy that we need to face the day ahead of us.
What we don't know, and perhaps this may shock some of us, bakeries are killing the nutritional value of breads by adding synthetic ingredients to baked products.
Researchers are most concerned with the addition of an artificial ingredient known as potassium bromate.
Most bakeries are being driven to this by the profit motive.
Around 84 percent of bread samples tested by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India found traces of Potassium bromate.
The Environmental and Molecular Mutagenesis journal published a study showing that Potassium bromate causes cancer and also leads to significant damage of microscopic components of cells.
Perhaps it's time to switch to organically prepared bread.
