The hearing of the presidential election petitions against President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta kicks off today (Wednesday) at the Supreme Court in Nairobi.

The first petition was filed by former Kilome MP Harun Mwau on Monday, November 6.

The second was filed by two rights group under the umbrella of Kura Yangu Sauti Yangu. The groups include Muslims for Human Rights (Muhuri) led by chairman Khelef Khalifa, and International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) Kenya Chapter led by Njonjo Mue. The groups are represented by lawyer Harun Ndubi and Julie Soweto.

Headed by six judges, the court held a pre-trial conference on Tuesday where it made the below resolutions.1. NASA principals Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi were suspended from the hearing of a case filed by Institute for Democratic Governance (IDG) against the four, with judges saying it was not time-bound.2. The six Supreme Court judges expunged from the court records of the controversial internal memos obtained from Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). This is after Uhuru Kenyatta's lawyer Mellisa Ng’ania said the documents were obtained illegally and should not be part of the record.3. Attorney General Prof Githu Muigai was admitted as an interested party. His application as amicus curiae was however rejected.4. Led by Chief Justice David Maraga, the judges directed that Nasa should not be retained as a respondent in the petition. Parties in the case were restrained from making any references to Nasa leadership on grounds that Nasa did not participate in the October 26 fresh poll.5. Thirdway Alliance leader and presidential candidate D Ekuru Aukot was admitted as an interested party.
