Celebrated Human Rights Lawyer George Kegoro and his counterpart Maina Kiai are among 8 Daily Nation columnists who have suspended associations with Kenya's arguably oldest media house, Nation Media Group.
In a joint statement on Tuesday, the columnists, who writes diverse content on social-economic and geopolitical landscape, protested alleged interference of state on NMG.
"We hereby withdraw our association with you forthwith for the sake of protecting the freedom of media and public intellectualism," read the statement.
Among the issues behind their resignation was "unfair" termanation of celebrated economist David Ndii's column and NTV General Manager Linus Kaikai.
The two were sacked by the media house over alleged allegiance to opposition outfit NASA when executing their respective duties.
"The sacking of Kaikai was the peak of outright impunity orchestrated by the state and we refuse to be part of it," they added.
Others who have dropped their services include Muthoni Wainyeki, Rasna Warah, Gabriel Dolan, Kwamchesti Makokha and Gabrielle Lynch.
For Kegoro, the move will save Kenyan media from state oppression besides giving Journalists back their freedom.
"Personally, I believe that the media should not succumb to state oppression," he said.
