Advocate Allen Waiyaki Gichuhi is the new Law Society of Kenya President.
Waiyaki Gichuhi garned a total of 2,675 votes against his close competitor James Aggrey Mwamu who garned a total of 2,140 votes.
The seat of LSK President had attracted two candidates, Kisumu-based lawyer and former East Africa Law Society chairman James Mwamu and Allen Gichuhi.
The elections excercise went on as planned despite earlier plans by a young Nairobi city Lawyer Nelson Havi to boycott the process terming it as discriminatory.
The lawyer had asked the court to declare Section18 (1) and Section 2 (a) and (b) of the LSKAct, 2014 unconstitutional as it discriminates on the basis of age and status for the election of the President, Vice President and council member.
The lawyer however unsuccessful challenged the decision to bar him from contesting theLSK Presidency.
He has since appealed the High Court ruling and the matter is still pending for determination.
This was James Mwamu thirth attempt after loosing in the first run to former LSK president Kenneth Akide in 2010 and recently against Isaac Okero in 2016.
New LSK president Waiyaki Gichuhi was making his second attempt.
Allen Gichuhi is a Senior Partner at Wamae & Allen Advocates and he was ranked in Band 2 by chambers Global in 2015.
Meanwhile, the Vice Presidency had attracted two candidates, Chiggai Harriet and Joy Masinde.
