Somali-based militants Al Shabaab on Thursday hijacked a Toyota Prado in Lamu and took six Kenyans in the vehicle hostage, including Public Works permanent secretary Mariam Elmaawy. A team of KDF soldiers, which was patrolling the area, was quickly dispatched, and shortly rescued the PS. The Star, citing unnamed sources, is reporting that the PS was “slightly injured and in shock” by the time the Kenyans soldiers rescued them.The Kenyans, who had just finished attending a Lapsset meeting, were captured at Milihoi area on the Lamu-Mpeketoni road. Those who witnessed the incident say about 30 Al Shabaab men hijacked the Kenyans and drove them to Boni forest on Thursday afternoon.
