ODM supporters in Mombasa on Friday took to the streets protesting the failure by three NASA co-principals to attend the controversial swearing-in of opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Odinga took the oath and declared himself the people’s president in a ceremony held at the historic Uhuru Park grounds on January 30.
The inauguration saw Odinga read the oath presided over by High Court Advocate (Ruaraka MP) Tom Kajwang in the presence of Senior counsel (Siaya senator) James Orengo, and lawyer Miguna Miguna, former Nairobi gubernatorial candidate.
His deputy Kalonzo Musyoka, NASA co-principals Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula skipped the event.
Odinga explained their absence to thousands of supporters saying Kalonzo would be sworn-in later.
The duo later explained that they skipped the ceremony after being locked in one room after their security was withdrawn.
On Friday, the youth wearing ODM party-branded t-shirts protested along Mombasa streets carrying anti-Kalonzo banners, saying area Governor Ali Hassan Joho should be declared the people's deputy president.
They accused Kalonzo, Mudavadi, and Wetangula of being cowards.
They also demanded that Kalonzo should pave way for Joho to ascend to power in 2022.
