Tension remained high in Kisumu's Kondele area after supporters of the National Super Alliance (NASA) on Wednesday night staged demonstration against arrest of Ruaraka MP T.J Kajwang.
Angry protesters lit bonfires near Kondele roundabout, paralysing transport from around 10 pm.
They barricaded the Kisumu-Kakamega highway chanting anti-Jubilee government slogans and demanded for the immediate release of the ODM MP.
Reports said anti-riot officers were engaging the protesters in running battles seeking to restore calm.
Kajwang was arrested by Flying Squad officers at the Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday afternoon after he led the swearing-in of NASA leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday, January 30, as a High Court advocate.
Earlier in the day, police lobed teargas canister to disperse NASA MPs who had converged at the Nairobi County police headquarters, demanding for the release of the lawmaker.
The MPs were led by John Mbadi, James Nyikal, Gladys Wanga, Millie Odhiambo, Otiende Amollo, and Otieno Kajwang.
