According to the Nation, the legislators barred Speaker Muturi from accessing the chambers, claiming that the 9.30am sitting was entirely illegal as their leadership in the House had not been consulted.

The MPs vowed to remain adamant with their stance unless Muturi makes a consultation with their Cord representatives in the House that is dominated by the ruling Jubilee coalition.

Kisumu West MP Olago Aluoch said that they would not allow the House to carry on with normal operations since the prescribed time for the sitting had passed.

"The gazetted time for this sitting was 9.30. It's way past that time," said the Ford Kenya legislator.

“We will not allow Jubilee to sneak in the Mace (symbol of authority for the House). The only sitting that can now be properly constituted is the one at 2.30,”  he added.

Both the ruling Jubilee and opposition Cord are in a fight over proposed amendments to the Elections (Amended) Act as well as other similar elections rules.

The Jubilee side wants the law amended in line with “reality” while Cord is fighting for a status quo and accuses the former of planning a sinister move during the elections.
