Controversial Eldoret politician and prominent farmer Jackson Kibor has been allowed to divorce his second wife, whom he has been married with for 51 years.

Eldoret court on Friday issued a ruling dissolving Kibor's marriage to Josphene Jepkoech.

While issuing the ruling, Eldoret Chief Magistrate Charles Obulutsa said the petitioner had proved that his marriage was beyond repair.

"The court finds that parties in this marriage are no longer able and willing to live together. The husband and wife relationship is therefore irreversible and destroyed," said Obulutsa.

"Having considered evidence put before this court, the marriage is hereby dissolved and each party shall bear the costs for the court," he added.

Kibor, 83, had accused his wife for cruelty and desertion.

Through his lawyer Mark Waziri Omolo, Kibor told the court that his wife, with whom they have 7 children, would regularly travel to Canada without his consent and would stay there for over a year.

Kibor, a polygamous man with three wives, also accused his wife of selling 56 acres of their land without his consent.

The farmer argued that he would live longer if the court granted him divorce.

The respondent has 30 days to appeal the court ruling.
