Daystar University's Nairobi and Athi River campuses have been closed indefinitely following student unrest.
In a letter Dated 12th April 2018, Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor James Kombo said the decision was arrived at after a Senate meeting on April 11.
"The Senate consequently asks both students and staff to vacate both Nairobi and Athi River campuses by the indicated time (Thursday noon). International students residing in Athi River campus are instructed to vacate and report to a designated desk in Nairobi by 2 pm," reads in part the letter.
On Wednesday night, police stormed and lobbed tear gas at students in the Nairobi campus following a failed meeting between their leaders and the Senate.
The students and the Senate were scheduled to meet and discuss an audit report on university’s financial management.
Troubles at the private university begun after students demanded the resignation of Vice Chancellor Dr. Timothy Wachira over mismanagement of funds and poor leadership.
The increasing unrest saw students boycott classes on April 5, protesting the leadership of Dr. Wachira.
The students alleged that the VC’s poor leadership had undermined academic programmes.
Last year's demonstrations forced the university council to appoint Prof Kombo as acting VC as Dr. Wachira proceeded on leave.
