The Eldoret Catholic Diocese Bishop Cornelius Korir is dead.

Reports indicate Bishop Korir died early Monday morning while undergoing treatment at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret town after a short illness.

His death is a blow to the country's peace-building process keeping in mind that he has been a key pillar in preaching peace and cohesion.

He played a key role in restoring unity amongst Kenyans following the 2007/08 post-election violence.

He has died aged 67.
