Witnesses say the fire that started from one of the shops broke at around 12 PM.

"The fkre broke from one of the shops and spread faster to other shops. Traders are now counting losses," said Millicent Nyamete, an affected trader.

According to her efforts by the traders to put off the fire bore no fruit.

"Strong winds aided the fire to spread so fast to other structures making it hard to contain the fire," she said.

However, Ms Nyamete said that no injuries have been reported so far.

The cause of fire is yet to be established.

By the time Hivisasa was going to the press fire fighters had not arrived at the scene and the fire had not been contained.

This is the second fire incident in a week that has taken place in Kisii.
