Fierce fire on Thursday gutted down property of unknown value inside the store of Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA) offices in Kisumu.
Kisumu Town Chief Willis Onyona speaking while at the scene said the fire that started at around 11am has however been put out by the fire brigade.
Onyona said the store was carrying a lot of building materials being used currently to put up the new LBDA headquarters situated along the busy Kisumu-Kakamega road.
“Some of the workers at the site noticed some smoke billowing from the store and raised an alarm. Fire brigade was quickly alerted and rushed to the scene and managed to put out the fire,” he said.
He said things that have been burnt includes hundreds of bags of cement, other building materials and machines among others.
‘The quick response by the fire brigade help to rescue a number of things in the store, what has been destroyed by the fire could be minimal but that is subject to assessment by the store team,” he said.
The chief said their preliminary investigation shows that the fire might have been caused by an electric fault.
He said assessment of the damage and investigations will commence to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
