Five men have been arrested for stealing property worth Sh650,000 in Matuu, Machakos County.

The suspects were nabbed after they were flashed out from their hideouts by the public on Sunday.

It is suspected the robbers spent one week feasting in the house as they moved house hold goods, property belonging to business man Michael Matheka at night.

They ate and slept for a week as they steal from the house.

Matheka said the robbers  broke into his home after he traveled to Wote town  in Makueni County with his family.

 "The thugs were not in a hurry, they had field day drinking, eating and sleeping on my bed including those of my children while moving out household goods to their hideouts at night," Matheka said.

The incident occurred barely a kilometer from Matuu Police Station.

He said the more than ten criminals fished from his fishpond within the compound, cooked and feasted on fish and Ugali in his house for the entire  week.

Neighbors who spotted the lot in the compound at day time thought they were visiting relatives.

They, however, became suspicious when they realized the strangers had been moving electronics, furniture, clothing, bedding, food items, kitchen ware among other property from the house at night.

They alerted police officers who raided the home though failed to make any arrests, the suspects escaped into nearby thicket after police shot on the air. Matuu police boss Edward Changach who led the operations confirmed the incident.

Changach said locals helped the police flash out some of the suspects from their hideouts.

He said police arrested five of the suspects and recovered some of the stolen property including electronics.

Changach said they recovered the items after conducting a thorough operations involving house to house search with assistance from the arrested suspects.

He said they had launched manhunt to other accomplices including a KDF soldier mentioned by one of the suspects.

Changach said the arrested suspects had given them important leads which will help in arrests of those at large.

He thanked members of the public for their assistance and urged those with information on the suspects to share with police.

Changach expressed confidence that all the criminals will be brought to book soonest.
