Former Harambee Stars coach Henry Michel has passed on aged 71.
The former France international, who also coached Le Bleus, was pronounced dead on Tuesday afternoon.
Michel managed Les Bleus for four years in 1984 before going on to coach other African teams including Ivory Coast, Morocco, and Cameroon.
Michel was unveiled as the national head coach on 29th of August 2012 and was tasked with reviving the fortunes of the national team.
He resigned three months after taking over at the helm of the national team, citing frustrations and lack of honoring important elements of the contract.
The three months he was in charge of the team, he oversaw two international matches, in which he lost both, first losing 2-1 to South Africa in Nairobi before losing 1-0 to Tanzania in a FIFA friendly.
“To cut short all the interpretations based on misinformation recently published in the Kenyan press, I would like to clarify that I could not find an amicable agreement within the deadlines regarding my compliance with several provisions of the contract,”
“Therefore, I decided to stop working with the Kenyan football federation by registered letter dated 10-12-2012. From today, I will not disclose more on this matter, if not by available legal means. That notwithstanding, I wish Kenyan football the greatest success,” he said when he resigned in 2012.
He had a successful playing career, playing for Nantes in early 1960s.
