He was appointed Luhya king-pin and spokesperson following a research by researchers from University of Nairobi's Departments of Political Science, School of Economics, that as conducted between July-October 2016. The research involved 2,360 respondents.

While reading a declaration letter by the Luhya Council of elders which is chaired by Philip Masinde (from Busia), Luhya elder Francis Atwoli said Luhyas will no-longer follow anyone blindly.

"We as Luhyas, we are no longer slaves of anyone. If anyone wants to come to Western Kenya, he must first consult and inform Luhya leaders, through our spokesperson Musalia Mudavadi,'' Atwoli said, Saturday.
