Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze has died in a Nairobi hospital.

He was elected on a Wiper Party ticket and courted controversy saying that the party leader Kalonzo Musyoka should ditch Raila Odinga.

Nyenze has been ailing from colon cancer since 2008 according to a family representative Enock Wambua.

During his swearing in, Nyenze carried an oxygen tank into parliament chambers.

Looking frail and limping, he arrived at about 10 am dragging the tank behind him, with the tubes up his back but put on a brave face greeting journalists at the entrance.

He said: "How are you are friends...mimi pia nimefika (I’ve also made it) for the swearing-in," he said.

Nyenze’s voice also sounded frail.

He was admitted to Nairobi Hospital three weeks ago. He is said to have caught pneumonia on the campaign trail.

His body was taken to the Lee Funeral Home after passing on at 7am today. More to follow...
