The Kenya National Union of Nurses (Knun) has called off a nationwide strike, that had entered its second week, this week.
This is after the Union signed a Negotiated Agreement between the National government and County governments, through the Council of Governors (CoG), Wednesday afternoon.
During the signing of the agreement, County governments were represented by CoG Health Committee chairman governor Jack Ranguma (Kisumu), and CoG Human Resources-Labour and Social Security Committee chairman governor James Ongwae (Kisii).
Nurses were represented by Knun secretary general Seth Panyako and chairman John Biiy, in the presence of Health Cabinet Secretary Dr Cleopa Maillu, CoG chairman Peter Munya among other County and national government officials.
Mailu thanked the nurses for agreeing end the strike, and assured that the government will explore every possibility for nurses to continue serving Kenyans.
On his part, Munya asked the striking doctors to obey a Court order which declared the strike illegal, and get back to work, as the government continues to engage on proper ways to settle the pleas.
"County governments have the right to take action on the doctors for obeying a Court order, but we don't wanyt to take that way. We are asking them to obey the Court order and go back to work,'' said Munya.
Doctors through the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) secretary general Ouma Oluga has however vowed their strike is still on, and that doctors will not obey the Court order until the government implements the 300 per cent CBA salary hike.
