Wiper Party Leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka is no doubt a happy man after Edith Vethi Mwanzia Nyenze, widow of the late Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze, won the by-election with a landslide.
Ms Nyenze garnered 72.67 percent of the votes cast to beat the four competitors in the race. She got 14,372 votes flooring her closest rival by 12,326 votes in an election.
The election, however, witnessed a low turned out with only 38 percent of the 52,042 registered voters casting their votes.
Mr Dennis Muli Mulwa, as an independent garnered 2, 046 votes to become the second while Nairobi businessman Robert Mutiso Lelli of Narc-Kenya, who got 1784 votes took the second position.
While announcing the results, Kitui West IEBC returning officer James Mbai, congratulated Nyenze for being voted as the area MP following the demise of her husband.
“I wish to declare Edith VEthi Nyenze as the Kitui West Member of Parliament-elect because she has garnered the highest number of votes,” he said. In her speech, Nyenze promised to serve her people without fear or favor.
“I’ll be the MP for all Kitui West people regardless of how you voted in this election,” Mrs Nyenze said in a brief victory speech.
