Renowned lawyer, Siaya Senator James Orengo has led a battery of lawyers in a court of law this morning in pleading the case of their client Miguna Miguna.
Visibly irked, Hon. Orengo asked the court to take punitive measures against immigration officials who have continued to act in contempt of successive court orders.
A court had ordered yesterday that Miguna be produced in court today by immigration officials but that is yet to happen, a development that should attract heavy sanctions.
He said that there was an obvious attempt to subvert the rule of law and urged the court to bite even harder than Justice Kimaru's court.
''They were supposed to submit Miguna's passport in court, instead, they submitted a perforated passport. This is not about Miguna Miguna; it is about the authority of the court. The court is on trial. Somebody who has blatantly defied court orders wants the privilege of addressing the court in spite of being in contempt of court. Because of this conduct, the respondents should not be allowed to address the court,'' Senator James Orengo said.
Orengo's tough words are the latest twist in a protracted drama that continues to grip the Kenyan public.
Miguna's legal team has been locked in a standoff over his Kenyan citizenship.
