Reports reaching Hivisasa.com news-desk indicate that over 100 patients from the Mathari Mental Hospital in Nairobi escaped from the hospital, today, Monday morning.
This follows a countrywide doctors' and nurses strike that commenced Sunday midnight, with the medics calling for increased salaries.
Health officers at the national mental facility also joined colleagues in the strike, leaving the facility unattended.
Motorists and pedestrians shared photos and short video-clips on social media, showing the patients jumping from the hospital and running along Thika Super Highway.
A major operation has been launched to arrest the mentally challenged patients.
Health operations have also been paralysed across public hospitals in the Country, with patients calling for immediate intervention.
