Police in Mombasa have cancelled a planned Jubilee rally in the region.
The rally was scheduled at Mvita grounds, and was to be officiated by area gubernatorial hopeful, Suleiman Shahbal, Sunday.
According to a local television station, Mombasa county commander Peterson Maelo cancelled the event, saying Jubilee had not notified them in advance.
He said they received a notification for the ODM rally, saying that security would be provided to them.
There were fears that clashes could erupt between Jubilee and ODM supporters, due to the parallel rallies and the rivalry the two political parties share.
ODM party leader Raila Odinga, Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho alongside other opposition leaders are expected at the event in Tononoka.
