Outspoken Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati, who is also a key mobiliser of opposition leader Raila Odinga in Nairobi has been put under house arrest.

Heavily armed police are said to be camping outside Simba Arati's Lavington home, according to a close family member.

"Police have surrounded premises of Arati and none is saying anything. They have prohibited people from moving in and out of the compound," said Frank Kerina, a nephew of Arati.

Kerina, in a telephone call to the reporter added: "The MP is within the compound and they could be maybe restricting him due to his importance in NASA's rally at Jacaranda."

NASA has been depending on Arati and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino on mobilisation of supporters in the city for the last two months.

Although police are yet to issue a statement on the same, Arati has been on the run following claims that he sponsored Kawangware chaos in late October.
