Residents of Mwiki and Kasarani have been forced to walk to work this morning after PSV vehicles withdrew their services to demonstrate on the poor state of the Mwiki-Kasarani road.
The road around the Maternity area of Kasarani has been rendered impassable and matatus and motorists are now demanding relative authorities to intervene and make sure it is repaired.
The operators are lamenting due to lack of appropriate diversion as the road they have been using is currently not accessible.
"We had planned this demonstration as at around 1am. We have been complaining about this since Kidero's time but nothing has been done. There is no diversion to be used as an alternative route," said Washira, a matatu operator.
Speaking to reporters at the Kasarani sub-county administrator, Henry Momanyi, assured the demonstrating matatu operators and residents that the matter will be addressed as soon as possible.
"We are going to work on this. We have agreed the contractor should come and work even tonight so that this work can be completed within good time," said Mr. Momanyi.
The administrator assured the residents and matatu operators that the contractor will improve workmanship and make sure the road is done well to avoid any future complaints.
"As a county government we are assuring wananchi that this will be done. I have talked to the engineer and he said that in a fortnight they will have done this but we want quality work not that things are going to be done first so as to complete them," he added.
The Mwiki-Kasarani road is currently in a bad state with pot-holes and mud as making it difficult for the vehicles to use. However, the administrator promised to talk with the operators to resume duty as the county government looks into the issue.
