Police in Eldoret town on Monday engaged Rift Valley Technical Training Institute (RVTTI) students in running battles after they staged a demonstration following the murder of their colleague on Saturday.
The students blocked the busy Eldoret-Nakuru highway as they attempted to march to a nearby car wash with the intention of burning it down.
They accused workers at the car wash of being behind the murder of their colleague.
Police, however, stepped in and thwarted the students' march as they lobbed teargassed canisters to disperse them.
The clash between the police and students has caused a heavy traffic snarl up in the busy Eldoret-Nakuru highway as well as the Eldoret-Eldama Ravine road.
Police are still engaging students as they attempt to disperse them and open the blocked roads.
