For the better part on Tuesday afternoon, police engaged suspected NASA supporters in running battles ahead of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tour in the region.
Uhuru, who will be accompanied by acting Interior Cabinet Secretary, is set to tour South Mugirango before proceeding to the neighbouring Migori County.
Although the President was not scheduled to make a stopover in the town, protestors carried twigs and placards accusing Matiang’i of allegedly using excessive force in dealing with demonstrators.
“They are using live bullets on innocent protestors who are questioning the motive of attack on Janet Ong’era and Gladys Wanga,” said Vincent Osumo, one of NASA coordinators.
On Monday, area Women Representative Janet Ong’era claimed that police had attacked a vehicle she was using along Wanga with live bullets in Nairobi.
Police however, managed to overpower the protestors who had brought businesses to standstill in the South Nyanzan Town.
Gusii Jubilee campaign coordinator Walter Nyambati condemned the protests adding that NASA was wrongly vilifying Matiang’i.
“It is just witch-hunt and as Jubilee we shall stand firm and defend the constitution,” he said.
The protests comes barely a day before opposition leader Raila Odinga’s tour scheduled on Thursday in Nyamira and Kisii Counties.
