Protests erupted in Migori town on Tuesday morning, following the arrest of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) General Miguna Miguna.

Miguna was arrested on Friday morning after police reportedly broke into his home, breaking the house searching for him.

The arrest follows opposition leader Raila Odinga's swearing-in on January 30, which saw Miguna administer the oath.

Nasa said police took Dr Miguna by design to Githunguri following his arrest yet the alleged offense he was being charged with occurred in Nairobi.

Nasa reported that Jubilee supporters had been hired to frustrate Miguna the moment he is released from the station, given that NASA enjoys little support from Kiambu county.

On Tuesday, Miguna was arraigned before a Magistrate in Kajiado.

Carrying anti-Jubilee government and Miguna-support placards, the irate protesters in Migori lit bonfires and demanded the immediate release of Dr. Miguna Miguna, saying the court had ordered for his release.

They vowed to paralyze operations in the town until the government hears the plea.

On Friday and Sunday, residents in Kibra also took to the streets, demanding for the unwarranted release of the former Nairobi gubernatorial candidate.

NASA enjoys massive political support in four Luo Nyanza counties - Kisumu, Migori, Homa Bay and Siaya, and Miguna's arrest is seen to them as an intimidation by the national government.
