Former nominated senator Beatrice Elachi has been elected as Nairobi County Assembly speaker in a rather easy contest.
With Jubilee dominating County Hall, the competition was within the ruling party since the opposition had not fielded any candidate.
And in the first round of voting, Elachi emerged the winner after garnering 92 votes with her closest competitor Abdi Noor scoring 26 votes.
During the August 8 elections, Elachi unsuccessfully contested in Daroretti North where he lost to ODM’s Simba Arati.
Before joining elective politics, Elachi was nominated to Senate by APK party, which was dissolved when party leader Kiraitu Murungi joined Jubilee.
She will be working with Governor Mike Sonko of Jubilee and Senator Johnson Sakaja also of Jubilee in a rather Jubilee controlled city.
She replaces Alex Ole Magelo who was sponsored by the ODM party in 2013 elections.
